You probably did not wake up today with the thought, "Today I am going to commit a crime and get arrested." It is not a thought that most people have. If they do, then they are already familiar with the job a bail bondsman performs. But if you have found yourself in a bad situation, then you need to know that bail bond agents can get you out of jail fast, as long as the crime you have been charged with is relatively minor. You may find yourself back at home within hours if everything goes according to schedule.
If you do find yourself on the wrong end of the law's long arm, then it is good to know what is going to happen. The very first thing, as you might have guessed, is that you are going to be arrested and booked on whatever crime has allegedly occurred. Just remember that you are innocent until proven guilty. The second step is a judge setting the bail bond. A bail bond is how much money it will take in order for you to get out of jail until the hearing.
Once the bail bond is set you have two options. Option A is to pay the entire bond out of pocket. The great thing about this option is that you will pay no fees and once you show up in court you will get your money back. Option B is that you contact a county bail bond agent who will pay the bond, or rather guarantee the bond for you. You will have to pay a 10% fee of the total bond amount. The downside to this option is that the fee is non-refundable.
A bail bondsman will collect his or her portion of the bond, along with any security that you may have had to put up against the bond. He or she will also review the terms of your bond, instruct you to check in with them regularly and inform you of your court date. If you decide not to show up at court, then a bail enforcement agent will be forced to track you down. Do yourself a favor and make the scheduled court appearance.
Hopefully, you will never need a bail bondsman. If you do, then at least you will know how the process works and what a bail bond agent can do for you. If you get arrested, then call an agent and gain release until your trial date. It may seem like a long, complicated process, but at least knowing the simplified version can help make your life a little bit easier if you find yourself in trouble with the law.

Today's Tip On Bail Bonds
Being a bail agent is a full time job that does not always pay that well. As Stan Wilson of Bail Bonds Now says, "One month it may be great money and the next there may be only a few bonds written." Advertising plays a huge role as does your relationship with the local police officers. The more advertising and word of mouth that gets around, the more business you will have.
